Osama Silwadi is a Palestinian Photojournalist , born in February 14th, 1973 Ramallah , Palestine . Silwadi began his career in 1991 during the first Intifada and has put his life in danger to document the ongoing violence and conflict with the true dedication and passion necessary of a hard news photojournalist. At the age of nineteen, Silwadi worked as a freelance Photojournalist for various local newspapers and later worked for Agence France-Presse (AFP) for three years. Then worked for Reuters six years and later he has worked for the prestigious French photo agency GAMMA as permanent correspondent in Palestine and a Consultant at the Yasser Arafat Foundation . In addition to hard news, Silwadi touches on feature photography and documentary work . In October 2006, Osama Silwadi was critically shot by two stray bullets fired from an armed demonstrator walking in front of his office in downtown Ramallah. He was Paralyzed from the waist down and would not be able to walk again. Osama has embarked on a project to properly archive Palestinian visual history due to the multiple and continued Israeli military onslaughts against Palestinian lands, people and institutions in the occupied Palestinian territory, Osama believes in the essentiality of photography work in our context to document the events that are going around. His determination inspires and enriches his students in addition to nourishing the role of photographing as a solid pillar of the journalism work in Palestine. Osama will continue to enrich the field of photography unconditionally for a long time to come which instilling in him a joy of commitment to the career.

His Work : 

Silwadi published a book titled “Palestinian Woman Constant Giving and Creativity” in1997, which talks about the lives of Palestinian women. In July 2005, he published “Here We Are”, a photo book featuring Palestinian daily life. In August 2008, he published “Palestine … How Are You?” featuring daily life pictures of Palestine. In November 2008 he published “The Siege” featuring the siege of the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, in June 2010 he published “Al Quds” featuring Photos of Jerusalem under occupation, in June 2012 published " The Queens Of Silk" a photo book featuring the Palestinian traditional dress in 2014 published “The Revelation of Stones” a photo book featuring the Palestinian Architecture heritage , in 2014 Published “Mr. Palestine “Portraits Of Late President Yasser Arafat. and in 2016 Published “ The Wildflowers of Palestine “ photo book featuring Wild Flowers in Palestine . 

Osama Holds The Palestinian Golden Medal of Merit and Excellency 2012, Honored by Al Jazeera international Film Festival 2010, Palestinian Dance Festival 2008 and Honored by the General Union of Palestinian writers 2014 on his Photography work ، Osama’s work has been published around the world in countless publication including National Geographic Arabia Magazine, TIME Magazine, Newsweek, USA Today, U.S. News and the International Herald Tribune.
